Others will detail what the story is about, but I was honestly horrified at the quality of the writing of this book. HarperCollins, seriously? I would have sworn this was self-published by some fly-by-night garage publisher. Nothing about the narration, the dialogue, the characterization, or the flow of of the plot had a redeeming aspect. Every thought, every conversation was a confusing and random jolt of unnatural word salad that NOBODY would ever think or speak in real life. The opportunities to ask pointed questions in the effort to seek out answers were a complete and frustrating fail. I've not read a story about more unlikable, cardboard characters in a long time, and it's upsetting to me that truly talented authors are dismissed for credible publication, but somebody like THIS is published? How does that happen? I paid for the book so I read it, and I'll be happy to forget everything about about. Why would a 30yr old search and pine for her mother's old boyfriend she hardly knew. Too many errors in defining characters and their connections. Don't bother.
